A toothache is not necessarily a dental emergency, but it is a sign that something is wrong. Teeth should not be painful, and a tooth that hurts is a symptom of a larger problem. Sudden pain can be caused by something as simple as a piece of food stuck between the gums and your tooth and can be relieved by careful brushing, flossing, and rinsing. However, if your pain is not relieved by cleaning around the tooth, you will need professional help. Other causes of tooth pain cannot be treated at home. Call our dentist to schedule an appointment as soon as possible.
Symptoms of a toothache typically include pain, which may be sharp, throbbing, or constant. It may occur only when pressure is applied, and can be accompanied by swelling or pain in the gums. You may also have a bad taste in your mouth, a fever, and a headache. Our dentist will first need to diagnose the cause of the pain in order to recommend the best treatment. A tooth can become painful when it is decayed or infected. Dental trauma, bruxism, and damaged filling can also lead to pain.
Until your appointment, you can take some steps to relieve the discomfort of a toothache. Take an over-the-counter pain medication, such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen. Use warm salt water to rinse your mouth out periodically to reduce swelling and inflammation around the tooth. Be sure to brush and floss regularly and properly to keep your mouth and the area around the tooth as clean as possible. If necessary, you can also use a topical tooth anesthetic as directed.
At your appointment, our dentist will take an X-ray and perform a visual exam. If the pain is caused by a cavity, you might simply need a filling. If there is an abscess or infection, however, you will likely need a root canal treatment and antibiotics. Take the medication exactly as prescribed, and do not stop even if you feel better after a few days. Severely damaged or decayed teeth may need to be extracted. We will explain your restoration options if this is the case.

I've been going here since 2010 and I love this dental office! It's very convenient to my residence and they offer an array of services! I'm currently under Invisalign treatment and they gave me a great price! I highly recommend them for any of your dental needs!
I really like this dental office, dentists, and staff. The hygienist was very gentle and well mannered, she gave me tips on flossing and brushing properly, I highly recommend them to friends and family..

Now I Can Smile Again!
The dentist just made my front teeth/smile look like I had veneers implanted! She took away all my dark spots and heading without crowns and painful implants. It looks amazing! Thank You 🙂
The dentist was very kind + caring. Highly recommend! I only had a few days left on my dental insurance + she helped to prioritize my care + fit me in so that I could get issues taken care of in a pinch. The office manager, couldn't have been sweeter + she helped me to understand the sometimes tricky insurance pieces + actual prices I'd be paying before I made any decisions. A+ experience.
